PR Daily announced the winners of the 2016 Media Relations Awards today, and while Page 1 Solutions did not secure the grand prize in the Response to Breaking News category, we are extremely proud to be awarded an Honorable Mention! We are very grateful for the consideration of the judges at PR Daily, and extend a hardy congratulations to Winuk Communications, the winner of this category.
The breaking news to which we responded hit close to home. Last year former client Dr. Walter Palmer killed Cecil the Celebrity Lion, and Page 1 wound up in the crosshairs when angry Internet users found outdated information suggesting that we were still marketing his dental practice. Our agency no longer had ties to Dr. Palmer, last year and now, and we made this fact the cornerstone of our response to the backlash.
We outlined our strategy in a crisis management case study published last year. It comprised the following tactics:
- Setting the record straight on Dr. Palmer's status as a former client and our lack of business relationship with him
- Responding directly to the questions, comments, and – yes – even threats left on our social media profiles
- Positioning our side of the story with local media
Our Honorable Mention is a wonderful award, but it's only part of the sense of pride we take in being able to overcome the Cecil crisis and learn valuable lessons along the way. We will continue to apply these lessons to the creative strategies we develop with our clients to enhance their Web presence and generate leads and revenue for their practice.
