Google+ and the "Business Experience"
Are you on Google+? Their user base is steadily growing and I expect it to grow even more rapidly now that Facebook has rolled out some pretty substantial changes to their interface and profiles. Right now, Google+ is only available to individuals. Those people who set up a business page using a personal profile are being shut down by Google. So, for now, it's best just to set up a page for yourself and then wait patiently for Google to roll out the business page interface, which they say will be later this year. It will be important to keep an eye on Google+ developments and be aware when they roll out the business pages. Here's a great article on how you can prepare your business for Google+.
Here is a video from Christian Oestlien, one of the product managers from Google+, discussing the "business experience" from their product. It will be interesting to see what Google+ offers for businesses. Since other Google services, like Google Places, are so valuable to businesses, I can only imagine that it will be a fully integrated Google experience that just might be better than Facebook business pages. I guess we'll just have to wait and see!
For now, I'd love to hear if you're on Google+, how you like it, and your thoughts on their "business experience". If you're not on Google+ and want to get started, you just need to get someone to send you an invite and then follow some of the steps from Social Media Examiner's "20 Ways to Improve Your Google+ Knowledge".
