Facebook Quick Tip - How to Remove The Annoying Ticker

Wed, 01/18/2012

If you're like me, the little ticker on the upper right side of your news feed screen in Facebook annoys you to no end. I'm not sure what purpose it really serves, other than giving me the chance to stalk people I don't even know. But frankly, I can do that without the ticker. Not that I do that of course (cough, cough).

The main reason it drives me bonkers is because many times when I am typing an update for my news feed, I'll move the mouse cursor over to the right so it's out of the way and it lands on the ticker, rendering my typing defunct. So, here I am, typing away at a highly creative and engaging status update when I realize that nothing I had been typing is actually showing up. All because the mouse happened to land in the ticker area.

Ticker. Must. GO!

And here's how you do it.

Chrome users - There has been an extension created for Chrome, which will remove the ticker from your Facebook feed. I've used it on all of my Chrome browsers and it works!

Firefox users - Just like Chrome, there has been an extension created for Firefox to allow you to remove the ticker. I have installed it and it works.

Internet Explorer users - I never use Internet Explorer, but from what I can find, it doesn't seem as easy as Chrome and Facebook. Maybe because IE is way past its prime and should be put out to pasture (moooo!). I beg you to please give Firefox or Chrome (preferably Chrome) a try and let IE go. But, if you're still stuck on IE, then here's a tutorial on how to remove the news ticker in IE 9. If you're still using older versions of IE, then you have much bigger issues than the Facebook news ticker. Just sayin'. DISCLAIMER: I've never done this and I cannot attest to the accuracy or safety of the information contained in the link. Proceed with caution. Or, just switch browsers and avoid the whole hassle.

Ahhhh! Wonderful!!! No news ticker!!! Now, you can skim your news feed and create those worthy updates all without the distraction and annoyance of the Facebook ticker.

Take that ticker.
