In order to design a proper website, the website designer/developer needs to understand your target demographic. Depending on your clientele we can determine how your website should look and feel, the size of the text and columns, plus the placement of each element.
A good rule of thumb is to consider your audience/potential client and include elements that will connect with them.
How Page 1 Solutions Determines Screen Resolution
As we track your statistics we can determine what resolution your viewer is using. One statistics package we use is
Google Analytics. Analytics allows us to track a range of information about the users who are visiting your website. One of the things Analytics tracks is the users' screen resolution.
Currently, Page 1 Solution’s statistics show that about
90% of users have a screen resolution of
1024x768, or higher.
Click here to view an example that is designed for a higher screen resolution.Three years ago 800 x 600 was the standard screen resolution size. This shows that today’s users are changing and evolving with the internet and today’s technology.
Here is an example of a website that was built for a smaller screen resolution.Three main criteria in selecting a page layout for a certain screen size are:
- Initial Visibility - Where does your content start on the page? How much scrolling is needed?
- Readability – Are the column widths too narrow/wide to be easily readable? The longer the column width, the harder it is for the eye to follow.
- Aesthetics – It is important to consider the various views available to your user. Optimally, you should strive for a website that looks good both minimized and maximized. Also, you should check what happens when a user increases the text size for readability. Does it break the website into a jumbled mess?
It is important to design with the target demographics in mind. But as a web designer and developer, your website should work at any resolution. Please
contact us if you feel your website screen resolution could be improved.
