Darned If You Do, Darned If You Don't

I spoke with an attorney today about his Web marketing, and he was faced with a dilemma that is all too common these days: "I know I need to do something, but my money is tied up in the Yellow Pages until September." The "Yellow Pages" may be any number of things for your practice (digital x-ray machine, building a new office, etc).

The problem here is time. Every day that your website isn't up and positioned on the 1st-page of the search engines, you're missing out on potential patients/cases. This opportunity cost far out-weighs the initial cost of getting the campaign up and running.

If there is ANY way to make Web marketing happen for your practice, DO IT. It's the most cost effective way of driving new business to your practice ---WHEN DONE PROPERLY. If you are going to move forward on a Web marketing project, do it right, or don't do it at all. Doing something on the cheap is simply a waste of money, especially when it comes to search engine optimization. One exception is getting a Google Local listing, but a comprehensive SEO campaign cannot be effective for $100 per month.

So, whenever possible, bite the bullet and launch the aggressive, comprehensive Web marketing campaign that will ultimately deliver the ROI that you need to grow your practice.

Holding Pattern

I'm stuck in a holding pattern above the Denver International Airport. Beautiful skies, but I want to be on land, on my way home. And actually, there's the more pressing issue that I haven't had lunch! I'm starving!

Web Marketing For Dentists in Vancouver

I'm at an LVI regional dental meeting. Dr. Kherani is lecturing about cosmetic and neuromuscular dentistry. In between his lectures, I'm speaking with the dentists about their website design and search engine optimization needs. It's a great meeting so far. Vancouver is beautiful.

But I Just Spent All This Money!!

Unfortunately this is a lament that I hear from many doctors and lawyers about their Web marketing. There are so many unscrupulous or simply incompetent Web designers and SEO companies out there, that practices are seemingly doomed to fail at least once in their Web marketing efforts before they find a provider that can actually perform for them.

I'm currently speaking with a cosmetic dentist who is considering our dental Internet marketing services, who recently purchased a new cosmetic dentistry website. Why he was counseled to build a new website rather than improve his current one, I don't know. His main website has a decent amount of equity with the search engines, and now he's invested a sizable amount of money in a new website that is going nowhere fast on Google. He now faces the hard choice of either marketing both websites (double the Web marketing budget), or to change direction again, and refocus his efforts on his main site, which is what I'm advising him to do.

Misguided attempts at Internet marketing are very costly, both in terms of the expense in paying for the new website and SEO (upfront and monthly fees), but also in opportunity costs. The latter is the biggest loss. Imagine how many patients/cases these clients have missed out on due to the negligence of their Web marketing provider!

Of course, there's nothing to be done about it than to get back on the horse and try again. Just be sure to be extra diligent in selecting your next provider. Compare Internet marketing providers side by side, comparing "apples to apples", and make sure that you have some sort of guarantee that the project will work this time. Above all, don't let past experiences inhibit you from doing it right this go 'round. Doing something half-heartedly isn't worth doing at all, especially when it comes to Internet marketing.

Up Close and Personal With Dental Bonding

Up until now, I've never had a personal experience with cosmetic dentistry, and last week, that changed. I was playing basketball on our mini-court out behind the office, and I took a header into the pavement. Here was the result:

Broken teeth in need of cosmetic dentistry

When I realized what happened, I kind of panicked. I never realized how attached I am to the way I look. Not sure if that makes me vain, but I felt grotesque. I wasn't confident in my regular dentist's cosmetic dentistry abilities, so I immediately thought of our Denver cosmetic dentistry client, Dr. Scott Greenhalgh. He's in town and is a good friend, so I trusted him to take good care of me. He and his team did a great job:

Dental bonding repaired my front teeth

Some day, I may go in for some teeth whitening and some porcelain veneers to even out my smile, but the dental bonding that they did made my smile as good as new. Now, more than ever, Scott will be one of my favorite dental web marketing clients.

The results are great. Having invited him and made the pass he was chasing when he fell, I felt responsible and was very happy to see his smile looking so good afterward. However, Jonathan is now banned from the basketball court.

Blogger CrystalY replied...

Wow! I heard about what happened to you, but I didn't see it. That's a very nice cosmetic dental job!

Can you please give me more details about Dr. Scott Greenhalgh? I would like to visit him. I have dental anxiety. Does he do sedation dentistry?

Blogger Jonathan Fashbaugh replied...

Yes, he offers sleep dentistry.
