Freshness of Content Growing in Importance in Web Marketing

In a recent blog post by Rand Fishkin over at SEOmoz, he talked about the way that link building has changed, and that the importance of links is actually depreciating, giving way to a growing importance in the freshness of content.

In Google's eyes, fresher content can mean more accurate content and newer ideas. Google does value longevity because an older website is typically more reliable in many respects, but these websites can also be looked at as out-dated resources. So the challenge that your dental website or law firm website faces, is to strike a balance.

Your website should be a reliable source of good content, first and foremost. Reliability comes in the form of domain age and link popularity. If your website is new, then you're at a disadvantage, but it doesn't mean that you're out of the running for good, 1st-page search engine listings. You can make up for it with fresh content and growing link popularity. Link popularity is important because every link that goes into your website is viewed by Google, Bing, and the others, as a vote of confidence in your website.

Good content is fundamental. If you don't have anything good to offer, then your site won't capture the attention of the search engines. In this regard, it doesn't matter how old your website is. If it doesn't contain the information that people are looking for, chances are, the site won't rank well.

The last and piece of the puzzle is fresh content. If there were two comparable websites with the same quality and quantity of content, the same number and quality of links, the same domain age, and the same quality search engine optimization (SEO), and one of the websites was frequently updated with new information, the updated website would outrank the static site. Your competitors may have an entrenched position on the 1st page of Google without updating their websites. That means that they're vulnerable. Prove to Google and the rest that you are worthy of that top ranking, and you'll see your site move up on the search engine result pages.

Four New Sites Live!

We are very excited to have four client sites go live this week!
  • Blair Plastic Surgery: The website for Pennsylvania Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Robert Louton, M.D. was web designer Stephanie's first full build. She did a fantastic job, as did Andrew, who wrote and edited the full content.
  • The Druanne White Law Firm: Stephanie also excelled at building out the website for the Anderson, South Carolina law firm.
  • Hewitt & Salvatore, PLLC: This brand new site was approved the first time around by the clients! The West Virginia lawyers must have been very pleased with the design by Maarit and amazing content by Lynn.
  • The Bradley Law Firm: The Missouri personal injury attorneys at The Bradley Law Firm have an awesome new site. Taylor, the designer, did an amazing job. This site also has custom videos that turned out really well.
At Page 1, we are always very striving to meet our clients' needs. Great job to everyone who went above and beyond to create the perfect site for each these clients. Especial kudos to the account managers who kept the projects going smoothly!
