Will Your Domain Name Turn Against You?
One of the easiest ways that you as a Page 1 client can guard your investment in
search engine optimization is to be sure that your domain never expires.
Search engine positioning takes time to build. If your domain expires, there’s a good chance that your site’s search engine positioning will lose much, if not all of the footing it has gained. The damage can be catastrophic, but the good news is that this scenario is entirely avoidable if you don’t allow your domain name to expire.
You may be asking yourself, “How do I know if my domain name is going to expire?” Registrars (websites that sell domain names) notify domain owners (registrants) when a domain name is about to expire. They typically notify the registrant by email. If your contact information is not kept up to date at your domain’s registrar, then you will not receive these important notifications, and you could be in danger of domain expiration.
“How do I know where my domain is registered,” you ask? It’s easy. Just give me a call. Together, we will investigate where your domain name is registered and when it is set to expire. Most importantly, we’ll make sure that you can access your domain’s contact information to keep it current.
In most cases, I recommend that our clients allow Page 1 Solutions to manage their domains. It’s easy to transfer your domain to Page 1 control and won’t typically cost you any more than what you’re already paying for your domain name every year. Once your domain name is under Page 1 Solutions management, you can rest assured that we will let you know when your domain name is up for renewal. If it’s your main domain, we will renew it automatically and will bill you for the cost. This way, you never have to worry that your domain name might be the downfall of your search engine positioning.
