Google's "Search Plus Your World"
Last month I wrote about Google leveraging its power in search to increase Google+ activity and today they revealed even more of their strategy to integrate Google+ into their 'product line'. Launched today, Google+ users and those simply signed into Google will now see what Google is calling "Search Plus Your World" in which public Google+ pages will now be included alongside organic search results on their search engine. In the words of Google's product management director of search, Google + members will now be able to "search across information that is private and only shared to you, not just the public web."
In addition, when you are signed into your Google+ account and searching on Google, your search query will try to auto-fill your search with those terms included within your Circles. Public profiles from those you don't follow will also show up in your searches and a user-friendly 'add' button will also be present on the results page.
As for the security concerns, Search Across Your World only works if you're signed into Google+ AND searching on their secure search (https://www.google.com/).
Although the Google+ results will be clearly annotated, there are still concerns with the timeliness and relevancy of results as relayed here by Twitter spokersman Matt Graves:
"For years, people have relied on Google to deliver the most relevant results anytime they wanted to find something on the Internet.
There are no reported responses by social media leader Facebook, but this could finally be the tipping point for Facebook to launch it's much rumored search engine. If the Facebook Search Engine does result from this, SEO experts may have to alter their "Google is King" mentality as the number of active users on Facebook is 800 million and half of those users log on every day.
