G+Local and G+Business = Local and Social

Thu, 07/26/2012

I have had a few clients ask how they can quickly tell the difference between a G+ Local Listing and a G+ Business Page. While there are several major differeences in functionality, I thought I would share some quick ways to tell if you have landed on a Local or Business page.

  • The G+ Business page is a social. It is similar to a Facebook Fan Page and allows for you to share information with freindss.
  • The Google+ Local page is a local listing. This is where people can write reviews.
  • Both have the opportunity to pull into Google searches for various phrases.

They look very similar, but below you will see a couple quick ways to tell the difference:

Google + Local

NOTE: Local listings have a tab on the right that says "Local" and an option to "Write a Review"

Google+ Business Page

NOTE: Google + Business Pages allow "Followers" and "Posts"

G+ Local and G+ Business pages pull up similar to the way your website does with SEO. The more content, reviews, +1 likes etc you have the better of a resource you appear to Google and the better chance you have to pull into page 1 listings.

We have also noticed ever since G+ Local replaced Google Places there has been a lot of fluctuation in where listings show up. You will probably notice that depending on what you type into Google, it will rotate out with Local + and regular organic listings.
