Pizza Night At The Children's Hospital

Wed, 09/23/2009

Several months ago, a dear friend asked me if I would be willing to volunteer a couple hours of my time helping with a monthly pizza night at the Children's Hospital. I have always wanted to do more volunteering, so I jumped on the opportunity. That few hours spent handing out pizza and soda to patients, parents, family and friends, were some of the most humbling I had ever experienced. It was a swift reminder that my life is not as bad as I may sometimes think. My problems and challenges are NOTHING like the ones these children (and their families) face every day.

Because I was so moved by this event, I wanted to encourage others to take the time to volunteer for it, so I contacted the organizer of the pizza night and Page 1 Solutions was able to sponsor September's event. We had eight people from Page 1 who volunteered their time, plus my friend who had initially gotten me involved came as well.

The monthly pizza nights are organized by the Rocky Mountain Harley Owners Group. They put on the event on the fourth Tuesday of every month and look to local businesses to sponsor the event. The members of the Harley Owners Group show up in their leathers and patches and the children love it! Here are a bunch of bikers (the types who some people might normally be scared of) giving out pizza and soda, making children smile, and helping make the parents' life a little easier - even if it's just for one evening. These are truly some of the nicest people you'll ever meet!

If you are a local business and interested in sponsoring one of the pizza nights, I encourage you to contact the group. Or, if you simply want to volunteer your time, let them know. It really will change your outlook on life!
